AC Driving School has a new classroom curriculum from AAA. This is a nationally recognized and researched based curriculum updated for components in safe driving skills and education, the science of physics, how to avoid car crashes, maintaining a vehicle, laws, signs, road rules, and many other items that will help your teen in becoming a safe and competent driver. This curriculum uses instructional videos and Power Points, but also relies on textbooks and written materials. Other state mandated topics are also included by AC Driving for a very thorough package. We don't just rely on screens or solitary student work, but require our students to have rich discussions while engaging in interactive, hands-on activities.
Online Curriculum
We offer online packages for teen parent-taught as well as the adult 6 hour course. This state-approved online course is designed specifically for drivers who want a flexible, engaging, and effective way to learn essential driving skills. Built on the acclaimed SPIDER Method™, a proactive, defensive driving framework course blends humor, storytelling, and interactive content to make learning memorable and stress-free. AC Driving School offers two types of road test appointments:
A. A road test that contains a 15 min pre-lesson (45 minute slots). This is a highly recommended option as it allows us to run through the test/route with the driver right before their test, which raises confidence, comfortability, and the passing rate.
B. Just the road test itself without a pre-lesson (30 min slots). From there, you may add our highly-sought after add on: the scanning process, where we scan in your documents so that you can avoid the DPS after your test and have a temporary license mailed to you a few days later.
What you should know before taking the road test:
1. You must have a passing score of at least a 70.
2. You will be disqualified from your road test without a refund if you are missing any of the above paperwork based on your age, your vehicle does not meet ALL requirements, you are under the influence of any type of alcohol or drug, or you perform a dangerous action during your test.
3. Please arrive 5-10 minutes prior to your test. If the building is locked or you see the "Gone Driving" sign, please wait in your car until the instructor arrives.
4. Parents may wait in the office while their child performs their test.
5. The instructor may not offer any tips during the test. They will only give directions. If the instructor must intervene in any way during the test, it is an automatic fail.
6. Parallel parking WILL be part of the test. Remember to signal before performing this action. We will use cones to represent cars. Be sure to check your blindspot and signal before coming out of the parking space.
NEXT STEPS - How do you get your license after the road test?
You have two options.
1. Have AC Driving School scan your paperwork.
The easiest option is to add on our scanning option for $60. This option can be purchased through your student portal. This option keeps you out of the DPS!! On average, it will take about 5-8 days to receive the temporary license in the mail from DPS. The real license will be mailed within a few weeks. You will not be allowed to drive alone until you have a license in hand.
2. OR, you can have AC Driving School's team create a sealed envelope for you to take to the DPS.
