Level 3
High-Power Vehicle Training
- Perfect for: Vehicles over 250 Horsepower
- Level 3 is where you get prepared for the power and sensitivity of sports cars and heavy duty trucks. The basic mechanics of a 250+ vehicle are the same, but the big difference is in pedal control. You’re going to need precise shifting, rev matching, and power management so that you protect your clutch when getting the lead out. But even more important is managing all of that power at low speeds. Feathering into a parking spot can be tricky when you have a massively powerful engine under the hood. Your instructor will pay extra attention to pedal control, focusing on toe heel and feathering the clutch so that you maintain smooth and steady control at low speeds. The last thing you want to do is accidentally lurch forward and scratch your bumper.
- NOTE: This lesson is usually taught with a vehicle that has LESS than 250 horsepower. The core focus of this course is repetition and practice of the maneuvers that are difficult for new stick shift drivers if they drive a powerful sports car AFTER the lesson. Learning these skills does NOT require use of a powerful car.

About Me
Hey, I’m Lauren and I’d love to help you learn to drive a stick shift. Here's a little bit about me:
How I Learned Stick Shift
My first stick shift car was a 1992 Nissan Sentra SE. It was the car I learned stick shift on. My father’s friend was moving out of state and he was selling it pretty much just to get rid of it. I bought it for a few hundred dollars even though I had no idea how to drive a manual transmission. It scared me a little so it just sat at my house for about two months. At first, it was super difficult learning how to operate the manual transmission. I stalled out a ton, and this was just driving around the streets in my neighborhood. I probably spent four hours just learning how to get it in and out of gear at low speeds. But after about a week I got the hang of upshifting and downshifting and got it out on the open road. I’d say that experience is probably what helps me help people who want to learn how to drive a stick shift. I’ve been there. I know what it feels like.
My Favorite Stick Shift Car
Of all the stick shift cars I’ve ever driven. The Honda S2000 is probably my favorite. This was a few years ago at my friend’s garage, back when car meets were everywhere. We probably had about 100 different cars at the meet one day. Someone brought the S2000 to the garage and asked me if I wanted to give it a try. It was my first time driving a car with a stage one clutch. It was very springy and sensitive and shifted so smoothly. The throttle was pretty sensitive, so it took me a bit of time to figure out how to handle all of the power. It was a great education in learning how to double clutch, which helps preserve the clutch.
My Teaching Experience
I’ve been teaching stick shift since about May of 2018 and love it. It’s one of my favorite things to do. But I love teaching in general. In high school, I used to tutor all of the core subjects in science and math. I was also a trainer when I worked at Offertals on the Grill in Hollywood. I was responsible for training all new employees on the back of the house operations. I also volunteered for giving technical training with the Broward County Election Commission.
