Safety is our priority and we make certain that you have a fun, safe environment in which to learn.
Woman owned and operated, we have multiple motorcycle safety course locations in the Dallas - Fort Worth metroplex and Amarillo, offering multi-levels of motorcycle skills training. Lone Star Bikers has been supporting the motorcycle community since 2014.
To get your motorcycle license in Texas, you must complete a safety course. You must be able to balance and comfortably ride a regular bicycle as a prerequisiste to this course.
The BRC - Basic Rider Course is a two day course intended for those with little or no riding experience, returning riders, or for any rider who has missed the opportunity to take formal motorcycle rider education. It is a TxDPS approved motorcycle safety course where Motorcycle Safety Foundation-certified RiderCoaches facilitate the activities and coach on our dedicated range. There is also an internet based eCourse assignment required to be completed prior to your scheduled class.
The eCourse for the BRC is a highly interactive 5 hour online program that provides riders of all skill levels with the basics of motorcycling. With integrated graphics, photos and video to illustrate the lessons, the program allows you to control the pace of your learning. Once completed, you will take a printed copy of the Completion Certificate and give it to your RiderCoach at the beginning of day 1 of your scheduled class. Please note that the Basic eCourse alone is NOT accepted as a license waiver by any state's department of motor vehicles, or as a license to ride a motorcycle or as a learner's permit.
The BRC outdoor range exercises make up approximately 10 hours of time, which are conducted on OUR training motorcycles (all 250cc or smaller) in a controlled environment, where students get hands-on experience and personal, professional coaching. Total instructional time is around 11 hours and includes a skill evaluation at the end of the course.
Licensed and want to practice with a coach? This is the class for you!
Use your own bike or use a school bike!
The MSF Basic RiderCourse 2 (BRC2) is a riding course designed to provide a low risk, effective, and enjoyable training event for participants who have riding experience. It's a great class if you have your license and just want some guided practice, or just bought a bike and really want to get to know it. There is no classroom session, only riding. The general objective is for you to practice skills on your own motorcycle. The course is typically four to five hours of riding with breaks. This is not a licensing course.
Passengers are allowed after the first exercise. Riders must be at least 15 years old and have a current motorcycle license. If you need a licensing course, the one day Total Control Intermediate Riding Clinic is for you!
The overall aim of the BRC2 is to help riders develop smooth and precise control as they manipulate primary motorcycle controls and develop their riding procedures and techniques. The first exercise is an entry exercise that you must pass in order to continue the course. This is to ensure all riders have proficient skills to safely complete the course.
The exercises include:
Control at low speed (entry exercise)
Stopping straight in a turn
Stopping more quickly & tight turns from a stop
Stopping in a curve
Multiple curves & lane changes
Limited space manuevers
Low-speed decreasing radius curves
Swerving
Skills practice
To participate you should have sufficient riding skills and experiences to operate a motorcycle with basic proficiency. You must provide proof of license and insurance. Additionally your motorcycle must pass a T-CLOCS inspection.
The 3 Wheel Basic Rider Course is a research-based and action-oriented core curriculum designed to teach beginning 3-Wheel motorcyclists of all ages the physical and mental skills necessary to ride safely on the street. This class is a licensing course as well as a skills course.
The curiculum includes basic 3 wheel motorcycle operation, maximum effective braking techniques, turning skills, obstacle avoidance maneuvers, classroom and range instruction at our dedicated ranges. We do have loaner machines available. You are also welcome to bring your own machine.
There is no experience required. Sign up and show up with the appropriate gear. You will be sent an email with a link to an online course. Complete the online course and show up to your scheduled range (riding) portion of the class. The riding portion is followed by a riding test. You will have learned and practiced all of the skills that you will be in the test.
Upon successful completion of the class, you will receive a completion card that you will take the the DPS license office and turn it in with your existing driver's license. They will then add your motorcycle license (restricted to 3 wheel motorcycles). No further testing is required at the DPS office, you do it all in the class.
This class is ONLY for 3 wheel machines and only for a 3 wheel license! Be sure to pick the correct class.
The Total Control Intermediate Riding Clinic is a one day skills and licensing course intended for experienced riders who own a motorcycle. The student is required to provide their own motorcycle with proof of insurance.
This class is great if you are licensed and want to improve your skills. We assume you know how to operate a motorcycle; this class gets into the physics of why your bike behaves the way it does so you are more likely to be able to correct any problems you encounter. There is also a Total Control Advanced Level 1 and 2 for your progression.
Prerequisite: This course is for experienced riders only and each rider must pass an entry exercise. The entry exercise consists of being able to start, shift, and stop smoothly. After the stop, the student must be able to make a 90 degree turn. If you are unsuccessful on the entry exercise or don’t feel you are ready for this, then the Basic Rider Course is the one for you. This is an Intermediate Skills Course and it is assumed you have already mastered the basic skills of riding your motorcycle.
You will work on the following skills:
Throttle control
Brake control
Vision
Line selection
Low-speed turning
Evasive maneuvers
Road-speed turning
Fear control
